Self-Folding Strand – MIT

4d-printing-2

We are back from the slopes and since we are back in Boston we thought we might showcase The Self-Assembly Lab coming out of MIT.  The lab is a research collaborative between designers, engineers, and architects focusing on self-constructing and manufacturing systems.  The platforms in which this research effects are countless, and the design possibilities are interesting to see as each new concept is played with, taken apart, and greater explored.  The Self- Assembly Lab will certainly be an interesting architectural parti to watch develop.  Check it out after the jump!

29th November 2012 Cross-Crit – WeWantToLearn.net

121129_crit2_3

It is that time of a year again when the late nights in studio and long hours modeling pay off, as most of you are walking into your final reviews and crits for the first half of the year.  We get a small glimpse into a recent cross-Crit in Diploma Studio 10 on wewanttolearn.wordpress.com, one of our favorite student/professor open run blogs to follow.  The studio is run by Arthur Mamou-Mani and Toby Burgess at Westminster University School of Architecture and the Built Environment.  The studio brief really shows an excitement to push and expose students and allow them to explore digital tools and natural structural systems outside of the norm.  A truly exciting studio, and the students work and shown excitement in their work and design makes it a must follow.  Check it out after the jump!

SCI-Arc – Advances in Architectural Geometry (AAG)

Sci-Arc just came out with “Advances in Architectural Geometry” for the AAG symposium at the Centre Pompidou, Paris.  The video showcases some of the polemic shifts that the field of architecture has run into. The AAG asked 15 other world-renowned universities to submit videos that we will be checking out and showcasing throughout the week.
