DraWearing – Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna

DS1_FRONT-copy

With digital fabrication becoming so prevalent within the design and architectural realm we are seeing more and more students bridging the gap between design disciplines.  Fashion and architecture have always danced the line into each other as architecture creates space, but fashion inhabits space.  Niccolo Casas students crossed the boundaries of traditional design and explored the relationship between the body and a 3D artifact.  Coco Channel said it best as “fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions.”  Check it out after the jump!

Digital Form+Structure – Levente Gyulai

14

Most professors are probably standing over your shoulder hounding you to show them your sketches and ideas; they don’t want to watch your intangible 3D model orbit around on your screen.  They want to bleed red ink all of your sketches, break apart and reshape your models, and possibly click on your screening and dealt all the work you did the past 3 hours.  Yet you sketchbook doesn’t need to all be by hand, we must be as willing and nimble with the digital tools at our disposal.  We got a peak into Levente Gyulai digital sketch book into today’s post, where his ideas are quickly generate, not in there pristine form, and rendered, photoshopped, and manipulated into an architecturally rich conversational piece. As students you must learn to produce quickly, and understand your drawings, models, and renderings are better left dirty then in there perfect form.  Enjoy the work of Levente Gyulai after the jump!

Reforming Taipei Main Station – Wendy Teo

R1035318 copy1_440

When we look at today’s efficient and leading “green” design’s we don’t necessarily understand, why they are eco-friendly and efficient.  Wendy Teo’s project explores the redesign of Taipei Main Station, which experiences high levels of pollution and acts as an urban heat island.  The exoskeleton design explores the use and integrated design of thermometric energy and bio-reactors into the skin of the building.  The building itself has an ephemeral experience, where the building shows the user it is working and living machine.  Check it out after the jump!

Natural Prosthesis – José Cadilhe, Julia Almeida, Michail Desyllas, & Salih Topal

A project out of BLUE at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London, which is a design research laboratory at the school.  They take an experimental approach towards today’s digital fabrication and computational technologies to expand architectural boundaries.  Natural Prosthesis by José Cadilhe, Julia Almeida, Michail Desyllas, & Salih Topal takes an ecological approach to how built architecture can interact with the machine that is nature.  They didn’t take the approach of nature being this pristine perfect form, but an ever changing organism as a whole, and how can architecture better approach and connect with this system.  Check it out after the jump!

KREOD – London Olympic Games

Only a month away and we are counting down the days to the start of the Summer Olympic Games in London.  For architects however it may be less about the games and more about seeing some of the amazing designs and construction that are brought to light from the games.  However today we are not checking out Zaha’s Aquatics Center, but a small pavilion under construction by a team of very young designers.  KREOD is to become an outdoor exhibition space in the Greenwich Peninsula during the London Olympic Game.  KREOD is a test to how we use digital design, fabrication construction, and approach sustainable design in today’s digital age.  Check it out after the jump!

Point Cloud – James Leng – Harvard GSD

Often we look at our surrounding environment as the parameters that we are required to design around in order to create some form of shelter.  Weather is a tangible, yet an elusive masterpiece.  We can analyze and calculate all the data; we can taste the rain, and bask in the sun, but will still don’t fully understand all of Mother Nature’s tricks.  However James Leng’s project attempts to translate all of that digital data back into analog movement.  Check it out after the jump!

Super-Surface Fabrication: Python scripting and fabrication workshop – AA EMTECH

We are heading into the weekend checking out an architectural workshop fresh out of AA’s Emtech studios.  Super-surface fabrication workshop was a digital exploration into Python Scripting and in the realms of digital generative tooling and rapid prototyping and fabrication techniques.  For the students it was introduction into code to generate algorithmic-based complex systems, a growing trend within the architectural community.  Check it out after the jump!

sPhysical – Sci-Arc – Peter Vikar, Erin Besler, Eugen Kosgoron, Siim Tuksam

Today F+ is taking the jump to Sci-Arc to check out sPhysical a experimental exploration into “the translational discrepancies that arise during interplay between an excessively controlled but exceedingly irresolute digital environment and its materialization into the reality of physical space”.   A great cross between robotic technology and architecture, used to generate our designs into built form.  Check it out after the jump!
