V-Dress – Brian Harms

Milling-Diagram5

As architects and designers we tend to stray into every field of exploration, which is proven by the diverse portfolio of Brian Harms.  A strong interest in digital fabrication and forward thinking design drew F+ to his work.  The V-Dress, or voronoi dress, is a cross pollination of architecture, fashion, and digital production.  We have touched about upon this topic before, as it seems to have become a growing trend with digital fabrication bridging into high fashion.  The V-Dress modular unit that hides the body plays with provocative nature of veiling and revealing the human body.  Check it out after the jump!

DraWearing – Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna

DS1_FRONT-copy

With digital fabrication becoming so prevalent within the design and architectural realm we are seeing more and more students bridging the gap between design disciplines.  Fashion and architecture have always danced the line into each other as architecture creates space, but fashion inhabits space.  Niccolo Casas students crossed the boundaries of traditional design and explored the relationship between the body and a 3D artifact.  Coco Channel said it best as “fashion is architecture: it is a matter of proportions.”  Check it out after the jump!

French Kiss – Savannah College of Art and Design

What is in a French kiss? The simple act is so perverse yet a purely provocative intimate gesture, exactly what  Jean Jaminet challenge his second year students to portray.  The studio was to design a boutique showroom for French designer Jean Paul Gaultier at Saks Fifth Avenue.  The studio was a strong exploration into ornamental surfaces through digital scripting to challenge the orthodox of white box design, the command show by these second year students is intriguing.  Check it out after the jump!

Kuro Maku – The Fashion Museum – Abre Etteh

Post-McQueen Embryos- AA School Paris

The AA School in Paris recently had their final review for their architecture and fashion studio, Post McQueen Embryos.  This studio regularly creates some of the most amazing designs we’ve ever seen.  Although not necessiraly wearable, the designs are certainly provocative, much like the design of Alexander McQueen.  We always find these types of cross-discipline studios super interesting, seeing how architects can use their skills and techniques to create interesting designs of things besides buildings.
