Continuing to follow up on the upcoming  Advances in Architectural Geometry symposium at the Pompidou Center in Paris, we are checking out Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) submission.  The video showcases a year’s worth of study, research, and construction between students and professors through the understanding of materials limitations and the proper pairing of digital fabrication techniques.  The video is amazing inside look in how other colleges around the world are defining and pushing architectures role in digital design.

“This movie is a narrative transcription of one year of work of the new class “In Silico Building” in the Faculty of Architecture at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL). It relates a methodology of taking material effects associated with the proper fabrication method as a starting point for architectural design and construction. The research on intricate relationships between material and machine, associated to a reflection on the assembly level but also at the functional one, envisions a new vocabulary for architectural elements and spaces.

The video will be shown in Video Panorama that will take place from 27th to 30th September 2012 in the Forum -1 of the Pompidou Center in Paris, as part of the Advances in Architectural Geometry 2012 Conference.”
