PriSchool – Glen Santayana

In America the concept of how prisons should work and how they are designed has greatly been overlooked, and hardly changed.  Glen Santayana took a vastly different look at how a mixture between architecture, urban planning, and a radically different approach in how we treat non-violent offenders for his PriSchool prison design.  Glen takes the idea of a prison as an institution of punishment, and flips it to  a place of reform and education.  The title is a cheeky play on words, however if we are about to pay for these inmates to sit in prison, why not educate them beyond right from wrong.  Check it out after the jump and make sure to check out Glen Santayana full thesis book at the end!

Amsterdam Workplace VI – Yaohua Wang

Last year we came across Yaohua Wang’s work done at SCI-Arc, and we are back to check a new project done at the Harvard GSD.  Yaohua Wang’s work takes a look at the world and culture of the changing and ever emerging VFX (visual effects) industry.  The design strives to bring filming and post production all under one house.  The circulation whips through the building trying to tie the spaces together with this flowing network of progression through the building.  The renderings and graphic diagrams done by Yaohua Wang are strong architectural visual effects within themselves.  Check it out after the jump!

The Irrational Real: A manual for Atomistic Architecture- Cara Liberatore, Harvard GSD

One of our favorite things about architecture is its ability to take any concept, and interpret it through the lens of the built environment.  And some of the most far out concepts come from grad students, especially those at some of the top schools, and rightly so.  Check out Cara Liberatore’s project, that seeks to codify a built environment into a rational categorization, and then break that down into an irrational representation of those pieces of information.

Surface Deep- Asensio Mah, GSD

We recently saw Asensio’s project, Canad Blooms Garden, over on Contemporist.  While nice, it reminded us about this other project of his, which we had seen a while ago.  The Surface Deep garden provides a garden wall that creates a vibrant space.  The wall acts as a secondary green space, blurring the boundary between the architecture and the environment.

Mediating Mediums; The Digital 3D- Greg Tran, Harvard GSD
